Thandanani Centre Has Gone Green!

A   number   of   resident   have   started   a   veggie   garden.   From   small   beginnings   the   team   and   the   garden have   grown   and   begun   to   bear   fruit,   or   vegetables,   we   use   these   vegetables   in   the   kitchen,   a   great help,   and   give   away   what   we   can   not   make   use   of.   The   outdoor   activity   of   tending   the   garden   brings a   great   deal   of   enjoyment   to   those   who   have   stuck   with   it.   Well   done   to   you   all   and   keep   the   great tasting, leafy greens coming.

Our   activities   focuses   on   helping   people   maintain   a   level   of   independence   in   all   areas   of   their   lives. We   aim   to   maintain   or   improve   cognitive   and   physical   well-being,   and   motor   skills;   to   enhancing   self- esteem   by   achieving   a   sense   of   accomplishment.   This   approach   makes   our   activities   a   vital   part   of our program. Crafts   are   produced   by   our   residents.   This   is   a   voluntary   program   offering   individuals   the   opportunity to   learn   new   skills,   be   creative,   stretch   themselves   and   sometimes   earn   pocket   money   from   their labours.   Any   idea   worth   learning,   trying   and   having   fun   making   we   do.   We   offer;   art   class,   painting, drawing,   bead   work,   woodwork   (such   as   scroll   saw   items),   gardening,   candle   making,   sewing,   fabric painting,   mosaic   work,   pewter,   beading,   card   making,   decoupage,   stencilling,   leather   work,   tie-dye, cooking, and metal work.  We   make   items   to   order   and   encourage   self-employment   where   individuals   find   their   own   market. Items are produced sold, and profits re-invested and put back into doing it again. By selling our products we can replenish our materials to keep our workshop running. We   are   manufacturing   a   great   range   of   garden   and   patio   furniture   made   primarily   from   recycling   old pallets, seen here are a few examples of the work being produced. Should you wish to order an item please contact us, it would be great to hear from you.
