The Centre is registered with the Department of Health and is licensed to accommodate 53 residents and 10 day patients.

Thandanani is a non-profit making organization, managed under the auspices of the Brothers of Charity, a world-wide Congregation of Catholic Brothers. It is dedicated to providing a structured, supportive environment for psychiatrically disabled adults and helps its members to live as independently as possible. Cooking classes, learning to look after themselves and their home forms an important part in their rehabilitation. Members are encouraged to take part in various craft workshops and are encouraged to develop their skills, by working at the Centre in administrative/secretarial capacities, as drivers or undertaking maintenance around the properties. Social outings are organised on a regular basis to widen members’ social skills.

The staff consists of dedicated care-givers who build up a close relationship with the members, providing them with guidance and counseling when needed.

Thandanani was started in 2001 and aims to remove the stigma attached to mental illness by helping its members to integrate into the community and by helping to educated the public about mental illness. Providing members accept counseling and medical treatment, members are able to lead full, happy and responsible lives.
